Who I Am

Milton J. Davis is an acclaimed Black speculative fiction author and the founder of MVmedia, LLC, an independent publishing company based in Fayetteville, Georgia. He began self-publishing in 2005 in order to bring his voice directly to readers in its truest form. His work spans genres such as Afrofuturism, sword-and-soul, science fiction, and fantasy. Davis has penned over 30 novels and short story collections, including Changa’s Safari, Woman of the Woods, Amber and the Hidden City, Muscadine Wine, and Skerry Tales. He has co-edited several influential anthologies, such as Griots: A Sword and Soul Anthology and Griots: Sisters of the Spear, alongside Sword and Soul founder Charles R. Saunders. These collections have played a pivotal role in shaping the sword-and-soul subgenre. Milton has edited a number of groundbreaking anthologies, such as The City, the Terminus Series, and Spacefunk!. He has also worked on Steamfunk!, Dieselfunk!, and The Ki Khanga Anthology with Balogun Ojetade. Davis's short stories have been featured in prestigious publications, including Black Panther: Tales of Wakanda, Slay: Stories of the Vampire Noire, and Obsidian: Literature in the African Diaspora. His story "The Swarm" was nominated for the 2017 British Science Fiction Association Award for Short Fiction, and  his story"Carnival" received a nomination in 2020. In 2022, Davis was honored with the East Coast Black Age of Comics Convention Pioneer Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his significant contributions to Black speculative fiction. In 2024, he received the ConCarolinas Polaris Award, and the DeepSouth Con Phoenix Award for his contributions to Southern fandom. “It is vital that our stories be told our way in their truest form,” Milton Davis believes. “It’s for this reason that I independently publish.”
