Farewell, Facebook

If you're a Facebook friend of mine, you've probably noticed that I have not been around. This is not by choice. Over two weeks ago as I was responding to a comment I was cut off and told I was suspended for 'suspicious' activity. I was further informed that if I disagreed with the suspension, I could appeal, which I did. After my appeal I was informed that it would take a little over a day for them to make a decision. It's been over two weeks. Things got more disturbing when I received an email from Meta stating that I had not completed the appeal process and I had 180 days to do so. Knowing that I already had, I played along anyway. Guess what? I found myself looking at the same appeal I placed two weeks prior. This does not bode well. Not at all.
Real talk. I was planning on reducing my time on the platform anyway. I was tired of the limited exposure and random harassment (like this) and was in the process of setting up social media platforms where I would have full access to all my followers. I'd already shut down a few of my groups and I'm in the process of setting up social media alternatives on my other sites. This just speeds things up. Am I upset? Yes. Facebook was my main social media platform. Not have access to it does hurt my online endeavors. Now I know what the Twitter folks felt like. But even if I regain access, the die is cast. I'm on social media mainly to promote my books, and anything that interferes with that is not acceptable. Especially when I have not way to respond.
So the change is in the works. I'm spending more time on LinkedIn, Bluesky, and Pinterest. Oddly enough, I'm still able to post on Instagram, at least for now. I also plan on adding a forum to my websites for topic discussion and all the other good stuff. Stay tuned for more details. Will I miss Facebook? Yes. I spent a lot of time building on it, and made some great friends and colleagues along the way. But all good things must come to an end. I've had to transition to new platforms before, and I'll probably have to do it again in the future. I hope y'all will follow along as I make this change. As always, thank you for your patience and your support. You are appreciated.
